Next-Gen Coffee Lake Performance Benchmarks shown by Intel in China
With the launch of Intel’s 8th Gen Coffee Lake processors just around the corner, leaks and rumors are bound to happen. Today’s leak comes straight from China via Chiphell forums, revealing Coffee Lake performance gains over the current generation.
Intel Coffee Lake Performance Leaked – Flagship Core i7-8700K up to 51% Faster than 7700K
Intel is apparently training retailers in China giving them an overview of the performance metrics of their upcoming chips. Since the performance numbers come directly from the company, they may not be the actual indicative of the real world scenerios.
That being said, the leak confirms specifications of Intel’s next-gen processor family. There will be a bump in core count with Coffee Lake seeing the introduction of the first mainstream hexa-core chips from Intel. The Core i7 and i5 series will both get six cores, while the Core i3 will upgrade from dual-core to quad-core.
According to the leaked slide, Intel Core i7-8700K is going to be 11% faster than the Core i7-7700K in single threaded operations. That is pretty impressive but not as impressive as the multi-threaded gains.
If Intel is to be believed, we are going to see 51% better multi-threaded scores compared to the 7700K. This, of course, is thanks to two additional processor cores plus the natural IPC gains.

The Core i5-8600K will deliver a performance jump of 19% compared to the last gen 7600K, with multi-threaded score actually improving even further at 55%.
The Core i3-8350K is no less than impressive either, delivering 17% better single and up to 65% better multi-threaded scores.
At the moment, AMD definitely has an edge when it comes to price/performance value in the mainstream segment. But, from the looks of things, if Intel manages to price Coffee Lake competitively, it’s going to be very compelling option in the marketplace.
Full Intel Coffee Lake Core CPU Specifications Detailed
The Core i7-8700X is the flagship processor featuring 6 cores and 12 threads. The chip runs at 3.8GHz base clock which boosts up to 4.7GHz (1 core), 4.6GHz (2 core), 4.4GHz (4 core) and 4.3GHz (6 core). It will come fully unlocked with a TDP rating of 95W.
Moreover, 8700K features 12 MB of L3 cache along with a GT2 tier iGPU. In terms of pricing, the chip is expected to cost around $349 when it launches in Q3 2017.
The Intel Core i5-8600K is another unlocked, hexa-core chip but it will not feature multi-threading technology. The chip will have base clock speed of 3.6GHz, and boost clocks of 4.3GHz (1 core), 4.2GHz (2 core), 4.2GHz (4 core) and 4.1GHz (6 core).
There will be 9 MB of L3 cache on board while TDP is rated at 95W. The chip could cost around $249.
Finally, we have the Intel Core i3-8350K. The chip features 4 cores and 4 threads clocked at 4.0GHz. It has 8 MB of cache and a TDP of 95W.
There is another i3 quad core part, the Core i3-8100, which has lower clock speed of 3.6GHz. It will pack 6 MB of cache with TDP of just 65W.
The 8th Gen Intel Core i3 chips won’t feature boost clocks but rather a more stable base clock speed. You can expect these chips to cost less than $200 thus offering a great deal for budget builders.
The Coffee Lake processors will use the same LGA 1151 socket as the 7th-gen Kaby Lake family. They will roll out with a new 300-series, but rumor has it that board makers will extend the Coffee Lake support onto 200-series and even 100-series via a BIOS update.
The Coffee Lake platform will feature integrated USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) technology. It will also support Intel’s next-gen Optane memory, Thunderbolt 3 with DisplayPort 1.4, enhanced memory overclocking, DDR4-2666 memory, and up to 24 PCI-E lanes.
Intel will launch the first Coffee Lake chips on August 21. The processor family is scheduled to be available in devices in the holiday season.
