The Evil Within 2: Nvidia recommends a GTX 1070 to play at 1080p High
The Evil Within 2 is out on PC, and the initial performance doesn’t look satisfactory. A number of players are complaining about the game being not fully optimized for the platform. Performance issues aside, Nvidia has now announced their recommended GPUs for 60 fps gameplay, and they are all right at the top end.
For standard HD (1920 x 1080) @ 60 fps High preset, Nvidia recommends a GeForce GTX 1070 which is generally a sublime 1440p graphics card. It’s worth noting that the GTX 1070 is recommended for High detail level so if you want to play on Ultra, you’ll have to consider an even more powerful GPU.

Moving to 2560 x 1440p, you’ll need a GeForce GTX 1080 for playing The Evil Within 2 at High preset, while the GTX 1080 Ti is an obvious choice for playing at 4K. Even when using their flagship GeForce card, Nvidia says the frame rates can still dip into the 40s during taxing moments of the game.
After hours of in-depth testing, the GeForce GTX 1070 was found to be the GPU of choice for 1920×1080, 60 FPS, High-detail gameplay in The Evil Within 2, averaging over 70 FPS in our benchmarks. At 2560×1440, the GeForce GTX 1080 is recommended, running at over 60 FPS average.
And at 3840×2160 you’ll want the world’s fastest consumer graphics card, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, which tackled The Evil Within 2’s general gameplay extremely well, though dips into the high 40s were recorded during the horror game’s most taxing moments.
Nvidia have already released their new 387.92 WHQL driver package that is supposed to deliver the “best possible gaming experience” in The Evil Within 2, along with a handful of other games. Apart from ‘Game Ready’ optimizations, the driver brings with it a few new features, including support for OpenGL 4.6, GameStream support for HDR in Windows 10, and Fast Sync support for SLI.
The Evil Within 2 is powered by Tango Gameworks’ own modified engine that is based on the id Tech 5, called STEM Engine. This is much like Dishonored 2, which uses the Void engine that is based off the same problematic id Tech engine. Dishonored 2 also suffered from performance optimization issues on PC.
That being said, we’ll soon publish The Evil Within 2 benchmarks with all the most recent graphics cards to see how they stack up in Bethesda’s terrifying new horror game. Stay tuned to DigiWorthy!
