Following earlier leaks of AMD’s Ryzen 5 2600, another unrealeased Ryzen processor has surfaced online. This time, it’s an eight-core Ryzen 7 2700X which is set to replace the popular Ryzen 7 1700X from the first generation. The new chip will be part of team red’s 2nd Gen Ryzen family, scheduled to launch in April.
AMD’s 8-Core, 16-Thread Ryzen 7 2700X CPU Specs Leaked
The leak comes from ComputerBase.de, who spotted the new Ryzen 7 2700X in Futuremark’s 3DMark database. The processor features 8 cores and 16 threads, with a TDP of 95 watts. It also packs 16 MB of L3 and 4 MB of L2 cache, for a total of 20 MB cache.
While the above specs are similar to the Ryzen 7 1700X, the 3DMark result indicates a 300MHz clockspeed bump for the upcoming processor. The Ryzen 7 2700 runs at a base clock of 3.7GHz with boost to 4.1GHz.
There is another benchmark which shows the 2700X operating at 4.2GHz, but it’s likely due to XFR 2.0 increasing clocks by an extra 100MHz over the rated boost frequency.
In addition to an updated XFR, the Ryzen 2000 series processors will feature the Precision Boost 2 that will tweak an all-core algorithm to help sustain higher clocks under load. These new technologies could really aid gaming performance, posing some serious threat to Intel’s Coffee Lake lineup.
The second generation Ryzen processors will be based on the Zen+ microarchitecture build using the improved 12nm process. The process optimizations should allow for better power efficiency with higher frequencies.
With that said, you shouldn’t expect a massive performance jump over the last generation, given the Ryzen 2000 series processors won’t feature any considerable architectural changes. The performance increase should still be decent as we’ve in the previous Ryzen 5 2600 Geekbench listing.
The Ryzen refresh family will feature a full range of 4, 6 and 8 core processors under the Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 series. The new processors will hit the shelves sometime next month, alongside a new roster of X470 series motherboards.
