Ryzen benchmarks on Win10 Creators Update: Up to 5% Performance boost
It seems that the Creators Update for Windows 10 is designed to give AMD Ryzen CPUs a measurable performance gain in select titles. A German hardware site ComputerBase published Ryzen benchmarks using four games on Windows 10 versions 1607 and 1703 which show advantages of up to five percent. The increase in performance is not attributed to the new Game Mode though.
AMD Ryzen benchmarks: Some games run faster with Creators Update
Windows 10 Creators Update has been available for download since April 5, while the roll-out to customers around the world will begin on April 11. The Ryzen performance gains with the latest Win10 update were first reported by users on Reddit a couple of days ago, and the good folks over at ComputerBase decided to measure the impact.
They benchmarked a Ryzen 7 1800X at stock settings in full HD with max details. For graphics, a Zotac GeForce GTX 1080 Ti AMP! Extreme was used with GeForce driver version 378.92 installed. The test was performed under Windows 10 version 1703 Creators Update with both Game Mode activated and turned off.
Moving to Ryzen benchmarks, both Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Project Cars show no performance gain when switched from the last Anniversary Update to the current major version of Windows. The FPS remains nearly the same over the three Win10 versions.
This, however, changes in The Witcher 3 where there is around 5% increase in performance with the Creators Update. The increase is 3% in case of Watch Dogs 2.

You can notice that the Game Mode has no effect on the performance of games. Even with the feature turned off, the frame rates won’t drop.
Windows 10’s Game Mode reduces the performance of background operations to prioritize CPU and GPU resources to your game. Since the test system has no applications running in the background, the performance is same with the mode activated or not.
Finally, the Creators Update also repeatedly caused problems during the test. For example, Watch Dogs 2 couldn’t recognize the GTX 1080 Ti under Windows 10 v1703 saying the GPU doesn’t meet the minimum system specs. This is not the case under v1607 where the game runs without any issues.
Also, the Ashes of the Singularity: Escalations benchmark couldn’t be completed on Ryzen with eight cores, but it did work with less Zen cores.
To sum it up, the Creators Update for Windows 10 increases performance up to five percent in two of the four benchmarked games on Ryzen 7 1800X with GTX 1080 Ti. Whether other CPU architectures would benefit from the newest version of Windows is still to be tested.
