AMD Ryzen Demo Clock Speeds: F3 Stepping Clocked At 3.6GHz Base, 3.9GHz Turbo

AMD Ryzen 8-core CPU pricing leaked out

More details about the AMD Ryzen + Vega demo at CES 2017 have leaked on the web. Folks over at Hardwareluxx.de managed to dig deeper into the contents of the Doom demo PC, revealing the the base and turbo clocks of the Ryzen sample.

AMD Ryzen Demo At CES 2017 Was Running at 3.6GHz Base Clock, F4 Stepping Can Turbo to 4.0GHz

The particular AMD Ryzen chip was clocked at an impressive 3.6GHz base clock and could boost up 3.9GHz. The engineering sample is codenamed “1D3601A2M88F3_39/36_N” with last part being indicative of the turbo/base clock.

What’s more interesting is that the stepping used here is F3 which means we can expect a slight boost in performance when the final product launches. According to CPCHardware, the Ryzen F4 stepping has already been finalized and offers a turbo clock of 4.0GHz.

For comparison, the AMD Ryzen has higher clock than Intel’s $1000 Core i7-6900K which boosts up to 3.7GHz. In other words, the Ryzen chip should be able to outperform its Intel counterpart in gaming since such applications are directly related to clock rates.

AMD Ryzen CPU Can Achieve 5GHz Single-core OC on Air

As for the Ryzen’s overclocking capability, the chip can hit a single core OC of 5GHz on air. This is something of particular significance, especially for professionals working with rendering and compute intensive applications.

That being said, the power consumption figures for Ryzen are impressive too. The new AMD CPU will supposedly consume 93W under load, which is slightly lower than the 96W TDP of i7-6900K.

In terms of the pricing, the 8-core / 16-thread processor based on the Zen architecture is expected to be 2-3 times as cheap as the 6900K so we’re looking at the $550 mark. AMD didn’t disclose the Ryzen release date but you can expect the company to release the processor alongside its next-gen Vega GPU, in early Q1 2017.

It seems like the first quarter of 2017 is gearing up to be quite interesting for team red. Are you excited about the new AMD Ryzen processor? Let us know in the comments below.
