Intel Core i3-8350K CPU-Z Benchmark: On par with Core i7-7700K?

Intel’s Core i3-8350K CPU-Z benchmark has leaked out showcasing great performance in single and multi-threading workloads. The upcoming quad-core processor, based on the Coffee Lake architecture, will apparently deliver performance on par with current generation flagship i7 chip.

Intel has already unveiled its first 8th Gen Core processors for lower-power notebooks, with desktop Coffee Lake parts scheduled to launch in the fall. The Coffee Lake family will see the introduction of the first 6-core mainstream CPUs from the company that will come as part of Core i7 and Core i5 series.

Intel’s 8th Gen Core i3 series will move from hyper-threaded dual-core chips to true quad-core chips. The increase in core count, plus the fine-tuned architecture, will enable the new chips to deliver far better performance than their predecessors.

Especially, the CPU we are most intrigued with is the Core i3-8350K. It will be the only quad-core processor in the Coffee Lake lineup that boasts an unlocked multiplier to make overclocking easier.

Intel Core i3-8350K has 4 cores and 4 threads that are clocked at 4.0GHz. It features 8 MB of cache and a TDP of 95W. The Core i3 chips will not feature boost clocks but rather a more stable base clock speed. The prices of the chips will be in the sub-$200 range.

Intel Core i3-8350K CPU-Z Benchmark Leaked – Faster than Core i7-7700K in Single Threading

The Core i3-8350K CPU-Z benchmark shows that the single-threaded score of the chip is faster than the Core i7-6700K and even the Core i7-7700K. The Core i3 part scored 503.3 points compared to 492 points of 7700K, which is impressive considering the latter is clocked faster at 4.2GHz with a max Turbo frequency of 4.5GHz.

Both of the Core i7 chips are faster in multi-threaded performance, but we can see that it is solely due to the higher thread count. On a clock for clock performance basis, Intel has apparently achieved some decent IPC gains with Coffee Lake.

According to a previous Intel slide, the flagship Core i7-8700K will deliver 11% better performance than the i7-7700K, with multi-threaded score improving even further at 51% (due to a highercore/thread count). On the mobile side, Team Blue promises to offer up to 40% efficiency uplift over the 7th Gen Kaby Lake processors.

Several AIDA64 benchmarks also show the Core i3-8350K leading in CPU and RAM (DDR4) performance, in particular compared to the Core i7-6700K processor. The Core i3 chip was tested on a Z370 motherboard, and since the board is not yet supported, some of the labels tend to be wonky.

The bottom line is, if the above results are any indication of the truth, the Core i3-8350K could be a great deal for budget builders. Intel would also have to adjust prices to be more competitive in the market, to see a better response compared to AMD’s entry-level Ryzen 3 chips.

Intel’s 8th Gen desktop chips will be based on the updated 14nm++ process node. The platform will feature integrated USB 3.1 Gen 2, and support DDR4-2666 memory, and up to 24 PCI-E lanes. You will require a new 300 series motherboard to run the chips. The launch is expected to take place in the first week of October.
