AMD Radeon RX Vega to Take on Nvidia’s high-end Pascal cards
It’s been around two years since AMD released a proper high-end graphics card. Currently, this entire segment is dominated by Nvidia thanks to its Pascal based GeForce line comprising of GTX 1070, GTX 1080 (Ti), Titan X and Xp. These cards have no direct competitors from team red right now.
If a previous leak is to be believed, AMD might be fabbing three Vega models with the fastest one designed to take on Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1080 Ti and Titan Xp.

Vega 10 would be the flagship GPU which features 64 Next-gen Compute Units, each containing 64 GCN cores for a total of 4096 stream processors. The chip also offers support for 8 independent work threads simultaneously.
All variants of Vega will be equipped with 8GB of HBM2 and intended to operate above 1,200 / 700 MHz. The fastest model could be clocked at 1.6GHz to deliver AMD’s quoted 12.5 TFLOPS of FP32 compute coupled with 1GHz of HBM2 memory clock.
X399 HEDT Platform to Compete with Intel’s X299
On the X399 HEDT front, we reported alleged specifications of two new 16-core Ryzen “Whitehaven” CPUs yesterday. Both enthusiast chips are based on AMD’s new S3 socket and include support for quad-channel DDR4 memory.
The X399 HEDT Ryzen series will come in a variety of core configurations. The 16C/32T is the maximum, but a 12-core SKU also exists. We’ve heard rumors about configurations with 10 and 14 cores as well.
The Zen based X399 platform will support quad-channel DDR4 memory, more PCIe lanes and more storage compared to AM4. It will compete directly with Intel’s upcoming X299 platform featuring a 12-core Skylake-X CPU which was spotted last month.
