[Updated] Ryzen 7 Prices Not Cut Officially, AMD confirms

AMD first generation Ryzen updated prices

Update (Jun. 9, 2017): AMD has made it clear that it didn’t slash Ryzen 7 prices. The confirmation comes after several news stories circulated over the weekend, saying the company cut prices of each of its three Ryzen 7 processors ahead of Threadripper launch.

In a statement issued to PCWorld, AMD said: “We have noted some speculative articles appearing commenting on AMD’s pricing following Computex and would like to reiterate that Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 pricing remains unchanged.”

As for how Ryzen 7 lineup received a price cut, AMD suggested it could be a retailer’s sale on the product. “Any promotional deals or special pricing on Ryzen processors is partner/retailer driven within their business.”

AMD has quietly slashed the Ryzen 7 prices, or so it seems. All three CPUs in the lineup are now considerably cheaper than they were at launch, with price cuts in effect at various online retailers including Newegg, Microcenter and Amazon.

AMD Ryzen 7 prices at launch

The Ryzen 7 1800X, 1700X and 1700 debuted at $499, $399 and $329 respectively. Now these CPUs can readily be found for as low as:

Ryzen 7 1800X — $455.81 at Amazon and $459.99 at Newegg

Ryzen 7 1700X — $349.89 at Amazon and $349.99 at Newegg

Ryzen 7 1700 — $299.99 at both Amazon and Newegg

Even at launch prices, the Ryzen 7 series processors offered an impressive performance per dollar value. The recent price reductions should only make the lineup more attractive.

The Ryzen 7 price cuts come as AMD is getting closer to launching its enthusiast Ryzen Threadripper family of processors. The lineup features up to 16 cores and 32 threads, and will be compatible with a massive new socket dubbed TR4.

The Ryzen Threadripper will launch alongside AMD’s new X399 platform which supports quad channel DDR4 memory, 64 PCIe Gen3 lanes, and up to eight memory slots (DIMMs). The enthusiast line of Ryzen processors will arrive sometime this summer.
