Rumor has it that Nvidia is preparing the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti that will directly rival the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XL. Accordingly, the RTX 3070 Ti will be configured differently than before. It will be derived from the larger RTX 3080, and so it gets the 10GB memory.

The new report comes via the hardware leaker kopite7kimii, who has suggested that Nvidia is working on a new version of the GA102 GPU. This would of course be the long-rumored GeForce RTX 3070 Ti that would slot in between the GeForce RTX 3070 and the GeForce RTX 3080.


More specifically, the RTX 3070 Ti will carry the GA102-150-KD-A1 featuring 7,424 CUDA Cores, while operating on a 320-bit memory bus. What’s more interesting is that PG132-SKU35 will feature a total of 10GB GDDR6X, matching the spec of the GeForce RTX 3080.

For reference, the standard-issue GeForce RTX 3070 comes with an 8GB GDDR6 on a narrower 256-bit memory bus. Additionally, the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is said to have a TGP of 320 watts, which is equivalent to that of the more powerful GeForce RTX 3080.

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti with 10GB GDDR6X should be a little more attractive than the 8GB variants, which are seen as too scarce by demanding gamers in the long term, and tests are already proving that some titles are compromised by the 8GB memory.

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti would likely compete against the rumored Radeon RX 6800 XL, kopite7kimii indicates. The RX 6800 XL will be based on the least powerful version of the Navi 21 GPUs that will be unveiled this week.

AMD is set to hold a virtual event on October 28th. In this event, the company will announce the new Radeon RX 6000 lineup, along with benchmark numbers and pricing/availability information.

Just a day after the reveal of AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 family, NVIDIA will launch its GeForce RTX 3070 graphics cards with a considerably larger initial launch supply than RTX 3080 and 3090.
