Project Scorpio Reveal set for Tomorrow, Pre-order Page appears on Amazon

Project Scorpio reveal on Thursday 6th

Last week, we heard rumors about Microsoft revealing their new console in early April. Now, Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry has confirmed this, saying they have an exclusive Project Scorpio reveal planned for Thursday 6th at 2PM UK time.

We don’t know what details Digital Foundry has for us, but according to Jez Corden, who originally speculated the Project Scorpio reveal, Xbox fans can expect “huge, positive surprises.” Though he believes the console’s price tag will be announced another time.

As we’re nearing the Scorpio launch, Amazon is also readying to take your order. A pre-order page for the console has appeared on the Seattle-based online retailer and lists a Holiday 2017 release window. The page lists product’s features and details we already know, which are as follows:

  • The most powerful console ever, with 6 teraflops of graphical processing power.
  • The first and only console to enable true 4K gaming and hi-fidelity VR.
  • Compatible with all your Xbox One games and accessories.
  • Available Holiday 2017

While you can’t necessarily pre-order the new Xbox yet, you can subscribe to Amazon’s email list so that you will know when the console actually becomes available and you can pre-oreder it then.

At their last year’s E3 keynote, Microsoft touted the Project Scorpio as the most powerful console ever. The company promised “true 4K gaming” on the new Xbox console unlike Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro which uses “checkerboard rendering” to essentially upscale base 1080p res to 4K.

To deliver native 4K, Microsoft is targeting 6 teraflops for Scorpio compared to Pro’s 4.2 teraflops. In terms of memory, the only thing we know so far is that the console will feature 320GB/s of memory bandwidth. The CGI teaser of the Scorpio motherboard does suggest 12GB of GDDR5 memory, but again that has not been confirmed by the firm yet.

Project Scorpio reveal and Amazon pre-orders

As for hard specs, Project Scorpio will be powered by eight CPU cores. There is a very good chance that it will leverage scaled versions of AMD’s newest Ryzen CPU and Vega GPU. The configuration neatly matches with Scorpio’s confirmed specs, capable of delivering native 4K gaming and VR support as promised by Redmond.

Moreover, earlier this year, Digital Foundry got its hands on a Microsoft document which mentioned that Scorpio won’t have any ESRAM module, but a faster, better RAM instead. The enhanced hardware is also said to feature delta color compression (DCC) and four times for L2 cache of the Xbox One, that will minimize the amount of GPU bandwidth to render color pixels.
