Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti Listed for Halo Wars 2’s Official Requirements
By this time, we all pretty much know that Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti is inevitable, and it’s coming shortly. There is no official confirmation regarding the card yet, but little details should be coming our way as we near the launch, such as this mention in the official system requirements for the upcoming Halo Wars 2.
Halo Wars 2’s Ultra Requirements Mention Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti
The official packshot of Halo Wars 2’s retail version mentions Nvidia’s yet unannounced GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. As you can see in the photo below, Microsoft and THQ Nordic list the 1080 Ti for the game’s Ultra Requirements.
Halo Wars 2 Ultra Requirements
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit
- DirectX: DirectX 12 API
- Processor: Intel Core i7-6700K, AMD FX-9590
- Graphics: nVidia GTX 1080 Ti, AMD R9 Fury X
- Memory: 16GB
- Video Memory: 8GB
Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti will be the last graphics card in the Pascal-based GeForce 10 series lineup before the company introduces their next generation Volta architecture.
The existence of the card was first confirmed back in December, via a job posting by Nvidia over at LinkedIn. The job listing suggested that the new card will be aimed at the enthusiast PC gamers, and that 980 Ti owners will be the first in line to avail pre-orders of the product.
Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti Specs and Release Date
Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti will be based on a modestly cut-down GP102 silicon that is powering the refreshed Titan X graphical powerhouse. The cut-down GPU is rumored to have 52 out of a total of 60 SMs enabled, that would amount to 3,328 CUDA cores. That is still a hefty advantage over GTX 1080’s 2,560 core count, indicating the elder sibling will be a mighty 4K gamer.
The GTX 1080 Ti is likely to be running at higher clock speeds than the Titan X which should result in 10.8 TFLOPS of FP32 compute compared to the latter’s 11.
In terms of memory, previous leaks suggest that the 1080 Ti would feature 10GB of GDDR5X running across a 384-bit bus interface. This should yield an impressive memory bandwidth of 480GB/s. Finally, the card will have a TDP of 250W which is the same as that of the Titan X.
GTX Titan X Pascal | GTX 1080 Ti (Rumored) | GTX 1080 | |
Process | 16nm | 16nm | 16nm |
Transistors | 12 Billion | 12 Billion | 7.2 Billion |
Memory | 12GB GDDR5X | 10GB GDDR5X | 8GB GDDR5X |
Memory Speed | 10Gbps | 10Gbps | 10Gbps |
Memory Interface | 384-bit | 384-bit | 256-bit |
Memory Bandwidth | 480GB/s | 480GB/s | 320GB/s |
CUDA Cores | 3584 | 3328 | 2560 |
Base Clock | 1417 | 1503 | 1607 |
Boost Clock | 1530 | 1623 | 1730 |
Compute | 11 TFLOPS | 10.8 TFLOPS | 9 TFLOPS |
TDP | 250W | 250W | 180W |
Performance-wise, GTX 1080 Ti will likely be a little off the pace compared to the Titan X, but I’d still expect it to deliver a solid 60fps performance in most modern DX12 games running at 4K.
Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti is expected to be unveiled at GDC 2017 during the company’s “GeForce GTX Gaming Celebration” event scheduled for February 28. The release is rumored to be happening next month sometime between March 20 and March 23.
