Nvidia GeForce GT 1030 Now Officially supports G-Sync

Nvidia's entry-level GeForce GT 1030

The product page for the GeForce GT 1030 clearly shows a ‘No’ in front of Nvidia G-Sync Ready feature. But, it seems that the graphics has now been upgraded to support the technology.

Nvidia confirms GeForce GT 1030 G-Sync Support

A few weeks ago, a Reddit user noticed that the GeForce GT 1030 suddenly offered the option to enable G-Sync in the driver menu. Not only did the option appear, but the variable refresh rate also worked in operation.

When asked on the matter, Nvidia confirmed that G-Sync works on a GeForce GT 1030 when a DisplayPort output is present. The company, though, recommends a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or a faster graphics card for optimal gaming experience.

Accordingly, the GP107 GPU wasn’t limited in terms of the hardware, but G-Sync was simply not activated in the driver. It is unclear though, as to which driver exactly enabled the variable refresh rate on the entry-level Pascal card.

Originally, unlike the GeForce GTX 1050, the GT 1030 supported neither G-Sync nor ShadowPlay Highlights (for recording videos) or the UHD playback on streaming platforms, such as Netflix. G-Sync can now be excluded from this list, closing in on the feature lag compared to its direct competitor, the AMD Radeon RX 550.

The Radeon RX 550 is capable of handling FreeSync and ReLive, the competing technologies to Nvidia’s G-Sync and ShadowPlay. Owners of this ultra budget GPU, on the other hand, have to do without the 4K Netflix, and this applies to all other Radeon cards.

This should change in the coming weeks as AMD prepares a driver update to support the UHD playback feature. Whether this applies to the RX 550 is unclear at the moment.

Nvidia GeForce GT 1030 Specifications

Launched in May 2017, the GeForce GT 1030 is based on the Pascal GP108 GPU. Built on the 16nm FinFET process, the GP108 features a total of 384 CUDA cores, 32 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The chip runs at a base clock of 1227MHz and boost clock of 1468MHz.

In terms of memory, the GT 1030 packs 2GB of GDDR5 VRAM clocked at 3000MHz. With a 64-bit bus interface, the card offers a total bandwidth of 48 GB/s. The TDP is rated at just 30 watts.

Nvidia GT 1030 is priced at $69, and it primarily competes with AMD’s $79 Radeon RX 550.
