AMD RX Vega 56 Sold Out within 5 Minutes of Launch on Amazon
AMD officially launched its RX Vega 56 graphics card today. The XFX and Sapphire editions of the card were listed on popular retailers like Amazon and Newegg, for $399. But, the stock couldn’t last for more than 5 minutes, and as of this moment, all cards are sold out.
Fans will definitely be upset about Vega 56 going out of stock so quickly. The same happened to its elder sibling, the RX Vega 64, which is currently priced well above the official MSRP.
AMD said the RX Vega demand exceeded their expections, and that they are working with their partners to replenish the stock as soon as possible. But, from the looks of the things right now, it’ll probably be a few weeks or even months before the cards could be available at their normal prices.
According to a recent report, AMD’s Vega supply issue will persist at least until October. The shortage is said to be caused by low packaging yield rates. The RX Vega cards use HBM2 into the GPU, which makes the packaging process a little more complicated, resulting in yield rates that are lower than anticipated.
Back to the RX Vega 56 launch, let’s take a look at the specs of the card. The Vega 56 is based on the cut-down Vega 10 GPU. As the name suggests, it features 56 compute units and 3,548 stream processors that are clocked at 1156MHz base and 1471MHz boost.

The card packs 8GB of HBM2 VRAM which will deliver a rated bandwidth of 410 GB/s across a 2048-bit bus interface. It features a total compute performance of 10.5 TFLOPs. It has a TDP of 210W which will be provided through an 8 and 6 pin connector configuration.
In terms of performance, AMD RX Vega 56 would go toe-to-toe with Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1070. Early reviews show that Vega 56 delivers nearly performance overall, so it will be a good alternative to the GTX 1070. In fact, it offers better price per performance value provided the card is actually readily available at the $399 MSRP.
