AMD Radeon RX 590 Benchmarks: Up to 16% Faster Than RX 580
AMD’s Radeon RX 590 is nearly guaranteed at this point. A slew of new benchmarks on this Polaris refresh card, along with its first selfie, have now emerged online that should further help verify its existence.
The RX 590 benchmarks come from Final Fantasy XV benchmark scoreboard. The game was tested through the light, standard and high presets at 1440p and 4K. Unfortunately, like all other Final Fantasy benchmarks, they’re given arbitrary numbers based on Square Enix’s benchmarking system.
You don’t get to see the FPS performance; however, it does tell you how the RX 590 fare against the RX 580 and other graphics cards, including Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1060.

Unlike the RX 400 to 500 Series, we’re seeing some actual difference here. For example, the benchmark with the least increase (lite quality) from RX 480 to RX 580 is only 1.97% while the gap between the RX 480 and RX 590 is 12.62%. Even the RX 580 and RX 590 differ by a notable 10.44% margin.

Let’s take into account the bigger increase, which is the highest setting at 4K because the GPU becomes a primary bottleneck. The performance increase from RX 480 to RX 580 is 6.13% while it is a whopping 24% when we move from RX 480 to RX 590.
The forthcoming AMD graphics card shows a 16.85% increase over the RX 580 at 4K High, which isn’t a giant difference, but feels like the upgrade we should have gotton with the latter. The gap more or less also confirms it’s done on the smaller 12nm process versus the 14nm used on the Polaris 20.
It also explains why Nvidia is releasing a new variant of its GTX 1060 6GB graphics card. While the new Pascal card features GDDR5X versus GDDR5 on the RX 590, it may be in some serious trouble. It may not look like it from the benchmarks, but remember that Final Fantasy XV is heavily optimized for Nvidia.

The only real question now is price. With the name like RX 590, it’s pretty clear that AMD plans to keep their RX 580 around. This means either lower the price of the RX 580, or more likely a higher MSRP for the RX 590. How high that ends up being will determine how good this product is. Either way something between the RX Vega 56 and RX 580 makes sense, so it’s definitely going to be great to see.

Next up, we have the first picture of an RX 590 by PowerColor. The leak comes courtesy of VideoCardz, and while we can’t confirm its legitimacy, we absolutely can say that the source posting it is a reputable one having history of posting images of early boxes and actual products that later turned out to be completely accurate.
Plus, we have already spotted a PowerColor RX 590 graphics card on the Eurasian Economic Union certificate office, so this is almost definitely the card. It doesn’t really look any different from PowerColor’s RX 580 Red Devil, but it is still a nice looking card.
