AMD Radeon RX 580 Benchmarks and OC Performance leaked
The AMD Radeon RX 580 benchmarks have leaked out on the web. The benchmarks, which come via an overclocker Lau Kin Liam, give us a first look at how well the rebadged Polaris cards are designed to handle loads under overclock.
The card used in tests is the XFX Radeon RX 580 that uses a reference design. It uses a single 8-pin connector compared to the 6-single connector on the reference Radeon RX 480. This allows the new AMD card to deliver more power to the GPU which is important for overclocking.
AMD Radeon RX 580 Specs detailed
Spec-wise, the AMD Radeon RX 580 is based on Polaris 20 XTX. This is a slightly higher clocked Polaris 10 GPU featuring all 2304 stream processors, 144 TMUs, and 32 ROPs.

The chip runs at 1340MHz boost clock to deliver 6.17 TFLOPS of compute performance. In terms of memory, the RX 580 will be available in both 8GB and 4GB GDDR5 variants. The memory is clocked in at 8.0GHz across a 256-bit bus interface, offering 256GB/s of bandwidth.
Radeon RX 580 Benchmarks and Overclocking
In all tests, the XFX Radeon RX 580 was clocked at 1360MHz. The overclocker ran the benchmarks under liquid cooling using a custom waterblock. Below are the RX 580 3DMark screenshots at that speed.
While the card features an 8-pin connector to feed more power to the GPU, it seems like reference models have a 100-1500 MHz headroom when it comes to overclocking. The custom models may offer better headroom but we’re not sure and know once the cards hit the market.
The overclocker further mentions that the card ran into several issues with AMD’s Radeon WattMan OC utility. So he had to increase the GPU voltage in order to increase the power limit.
The card hit the clock speeds as high as 1500MHz, but it was affected by the infamous power bug which caused the overall performance to degrade. The Radeon RX 580 had the maximum stable overclock at 1480MHz with +12mV. Here are the several 3DMark scores with different clock configs:
Overclocking Configuration | 3DMark TimeSpy Score |
XFX Radeon RX 580 @ 1480/8500 (+12mV) | 4664 |
XFX Radeon RX 580 @ 1500/8000 (+100mV) | 4449 |
XFX Radeon RX 580 @ 1480/8000 | 4586 |
XFX Radeon RX 580 @ 1450/8000 | 4519 |
XFX Radeon RX 580 @ 1400/8000 | 4399 |
XFX Radeon RX 580 @ 1360/8000 (stock) | 4311 |

The Radeon RX 580 is expected to be priced around $229-$279. Based on the price point, the card would be a pretty decent offering for mainstream users especially when we consider the high clock speeds it could deliver. AMD’s Radeon RX 500 series cards will launch on 18th of April.
