Sony Boss confirms PS5, No PS4 Pro Exclusives to ever happen
In an interview with German gaming site Golem.de, PlayStation’s America boss confirmed the PlayStation 5 and spoke about the philosophy of no PS4 Pro exclusives.
Ever since Microsoft started talking about the end of console generations, a lot of people were wondering whether Sony will follow the same path as well. Especially that they released the PlayStation 4 Pro which is not a next-gen console but a PS4 upgrade offering better performance and some additional features.
It seems like Sony has no interest in doing that just yet. The head of Playstation’s North American division, Shawn Layden, said the company will definitely be making PlayStation 5. It will represent the next step forward for Sony as a whole, but you shouldn’t expect PS5 to be released anytime soon, he added.

The Sony boss also talked about PS4 Pro exclusives, the games that would run only on the Pro and not on the standard PS4 or PS4 Slim. Layden said PS4 Pro exclusives will never happen and that makes sense considering the console was released with the sole purpose to provide better PS4 experience. In his own words:
The Pro is really only to offer advantages such as 4K resolutions and HMD for players who can and want to use that. Add to this a more stable image rate and larger hard disk space. But who has a standard PS4 has no real disadvantages. Each of our games will continue to run on the classic PS4 and possibly slightly better on the Pro.
This indicates the company is more likely to rely on a real PlayStation 5, and when asked the same with Layden, he replied: “Yes. It will probably be some time.”
That kind of confirms the PS5 will have its own exclusives because the whole conversation did start around the exclusives. The good thing about it happening is that you get games where developers are not really held back by the older hardware. They will be able to take full advantage of the new machine when it comes to graphics and performance.
On the other hand, PS5 exclusives won’t obviously be available on the existing PS4 consoles. Owners of the current gen consoles will extra money to upgrade if they wanted to play those games.
