Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti Rumored to be in Works, But Will It Really Worth It?

Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti rumored

Nvidia is rumored to be prepping a new Pascal-based graphics card that will be known as the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti. This comes by the way of an image posted over at Chinese forums. The image appears to be showing an Asus rig with a GTX 1070 Ti GPU inside it.

Before we go ahead, I want to mention that there’s no official confirmation regarding this SKU; the only source for this is the picture taken by an unknown person with their mobile phone. So you should treat this information with a pinch of salt.

The GTX 1070 Ti could be based on the the same GP104 silicon that is powering the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 graphics cards. The chip will, however, differ in its configuration with 2304 CUDA Cores and 8 GB of GDDR5 memory along a 256-bit bus interface. In other words, it will be sandwiched in between the GTX 1080 and 1070.

Same is true when it comes to pricing. Given that the GeForce GTX 1080 retails for $499 and the GTX 1070 for $349, you can expect the new Pascal card to cost somewhere between $399 and $449.

That being said, there are, of course, some GTX 1070 custom cards that fall in the same price range. To be fair, there’s not a lot of clear air between the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070, both in terms of performance and price, to make a Ti card worthwhile. That is the reason why Nvidia has never released an x70 Ti graphics card.

The only possibility I can see is a GTX 1070 price cut so that the Ti card doesn’t cannabalise the sales of its younger sibling. Although, given the spluttering launch that has been AMD’s RX Vega cards, there’s little need for that.

What do you guys think? Would a graphics card that sat between GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 really worth it?
