Intel’s 8th Gen Core i7-8700K could overclock well above its predecessor, the Core i7-7700K. A screenshot taken with an engineering sample shows Core i7-8700K overclocked to an impressive 5.0GHz, with the chip running through CPU-Z and Cinebench R15 benchmarks.

The South Korean website HWBattle has posted the first overclocking result for Intel’s 6-core Coffee Lake-S CPU. The flagship Core i7-8700K is clocked at 3.8GHz base, 4.7GHz max Turbo and 4.3GHz all-core boost. The chip also features an unlocked multiplier to make overclocking easier.

The leaked shot shows Core i7-8700K overclocked to 5.0GHz on all 6 cores. Meanwhile, the processor runs stable enough to complete the CPU-Z and Cinebench R15.

Intel Core i7-8700K overclocked to 5.0GHz

The 8700K reaches an impressive CPU-Z score of 4467.4 points which is around 5% more than AMD’s 8-core Ryzen 7 1700X. In Cinebench R15, the Coffee Lake chip scores 213 points in the single-threaded and 1,591 points in the multi-threaded test.

The Core i7-8700K features 6 cores and 12 threads. The chip has 12 MB of L3 cache and a TDP rating of 95W. In terms of pricing, you can expect it to cost between $349 and $379.

Coffee Lake chips to require 300 Series Motherboards, Launching in October

Intel 8th Gen desktop chips will be based on the same basic CPU and graphics architecture as Kaby Lake, but will use the updated 14nm++ process node. You will require Intel’s brand-new 300 series motherboard to run the chips although the chipset is known to feature the same socket aka LGA 1151 (v2).

Furthermore, the next-gen platform will feature integrated USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps), along with support for DDR4-2666 MHz memory (native), and up to 24 PCI-E lanes. Other notable features include:
