Assassin’s Creed Origins: Ubisoft recommends Higher-end CPU for 60 FPS
There have been quite a lot of complaints about the PC version of Assassin’s Creed Origins being a CPU hog, attributed to Ubisoft’s anti-piracy efforts. The publisher however denies these allegations, and instead recommends using a rather powerful CPU to achieve 60fps.
Assassin’s Creed Origins is a large, visually impressive game so you’d expect it to put some load on your system. But a lot of players with quad-core processors are seeing 100 percent CPU usage, which is a bit out of control. It seems a double layer of DRM could be the culprit.

The game attempts to foil pirates by using VMProtect on top of Denuvo. While this extra layer of digital armor makes it a lot more harder for crackers to get through, it also drops the game’s performance by an estimated 30 to 40 percent.
For their part, Ubisoft have denied these reports, saying “the anti-tamper solutions implemented in the Windows PC version of Assassin’s Creed Origins have no perceptible effect on game performance.”
In an official forum post, the publisher has now detailed PC specifications that allow players to run the game in around 60fps High preset at 1080p or 1440p. These include:
Assassin’s Creed Origins: Performance Configurations
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K or AMD Ryzen 7 1700X
Graphics Card:
- Nvidia GTX 980/AMD RX Vega 56 for 1080p
- Nvidia GTX 1070/AMD RX Vega 64 for 1440p
RAM: 8GB DDR3
These system specs are higher than those revealed originally. Previously, Ubisoft recommended an Intel Core i7- 3770 or AMD FX-8350 to play at 1080p High.
The publisher doesn’t expect a processor lower than the recommended will be able to hold a stable 60fps even if you’re using the GTX 980. The CPU load is, of course, independent of the resolution.
On the graphics side, AC: Origins benchmarks show that the RX Vega 56 plays in the league of the GTX 1070 and the Vega 64 is on par with the GTX 1080. In other words, the RX Vega 56 with slightly reduced graphics details should be enough for 60fps at 1440 resolution. The real counterpart of the GTX980 is the RX 580.
