AC: Origins 1.05 performs worse than launch version, but LOD not reduced at all
Ubisoft has released the Assassin’s Creed Origins 1.05 patch for PC. The new update was expected to bring improvements in terms of graphics and performance, but on contrary, it introduced annoying stuttering issues on quad-core CPUs. Some users claimed Ubisoft has downgraded the game’s visuals, but that’s not true at all.
According to various reports, developers have reduced the Level Of Detail (LOD) in the latest AC: Origins 1.05 patch, resulting in less than ideal visuals. In order to verify the authenticity of these reports, DSOGaming decided to compare the game’s vanilla version with the latest one. And as you can see in the screenshots below, the LOD has not been reduced in any way.

Assassin’s Creed Origins 1.05 maintains all distant objects, shadows, and effects that were present in the launch version. The game uses a really aggressive LOD rendering from the beginning and no, Ubisoft did not change anything. So the reports about the game’s “downgrade-ation” are nothing more than just rumors.
That said, tests show that Assassin’s Creed Origins 1.05 suffers from some major stuttering issues on a quad-core system; stutters that could last 3 seconds. Even though the average framerate is higher, the latest version performs worse than the launch version.
The latest entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise is among the most demanding PC games of 2017. While it scales incredibly well on with more than four CPU cores/threads, the game suffers from optimization issues. For those looking to achieve the best performance at high preset, will require a processor with at least eight threads.
The latest version 1.05 still uses the Denuvo anti-tamper tech, but it seems that there is something going on under the hood that severely degrades overall performance on octa-core systems. Hopefully, Ubisoft will look into this and fix the issue as soon as possible.
