AMD Radeon RX 590 Coming Mid-November for $300: Report
The rumor mill is in full swing for AMD’s upcoming Radeon RX 590. This time we get a new launch date and pricing figures of the Polaris refresh graphics card. According to the rumor details, the RX 590 is set to hit the retail market in the next couple of weeks.
As the name indicates, the Radeon RX 590 will use the same old flagship branding as the Radeon R9 300 and 200 series. If previous reports are to be believed, the new card will be based on the Polaris 30 GPU using the 12nm process versus the 14nm on Polaris 20 and Polaris 10 GPUs.
Earlier, the RX 590 was spotted in the 3DMark benchmark featuring a core clock speed of 1,545MHz. That’s over 200MHz higher than the boost clock of a standard RX 580. The card is likely to still be sporting the same 2,304 GCN cores as the RX 580, along with the same 8GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 8 Gbps.
A fresh Polaris 30 architecture built on the smaller node should help deliver some solid performance gains over AMD’s current Polaris 20 GPUs. The recent Final Fantasy XV benchmark shows the RX 590 surpassing the RX 580 by up to 16% at 4K resolution. It even beats out Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1060 6GB by around 7%. I would expect it to perform better overall considering FFXV is heavily optimized for Nvidia GPUs.
The Radeon RX 590 is going to launch on November 15, reports Chinese site MyDrivers. The pricing is suggested to be 2099 Chinese Yuan, that is around $300. Of course, the official price in the US isn’t likely going to be a direct currency translation, but it still gives us a rough idea where the GPU will be pitched price-wise.
Nvidia already seems prepared to counter the Polaris refresh threat with its new GTX 1060 6GB SKU. The latest GeForce card features GDDR5X memory, which should help improve performance, but not by a lot. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how the two cards fare against each other in the mainstream segment.
