Assassin’s Creed Odyssey director talks Game Length, Animus and More

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Map

If you thought the current edition of the Assassin’s Creed is already longer enough, then wait until its successor is here. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has a much bigger map than that of the Origins. Not only the map, but the content in the game has also expanded compared to Bayek’s adventure.

The information comes straight from game director Scott Phillips. In a rapid-fire Q&A session with Game Informer, Phillips confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will be “much longer” than Origins. He revealed that the map will be bigger this time around featuring “a ton of stuff to explore and find and discover.”

That doesn’t come as a complete surprise as we already had some idea about it thanks to a previous gameplay trailer from E3 2018. Still, it’s an impressive stat considering Origins is already massive in terms of its storyline and map.

The normal story typically takes 30 hours to complete. You add a health dive into side content with some inevitable DLC and it could easily stretch up to 70 hours. It seems Odyssey wants to take things to the next level.

While the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey actors feature many of Greek descent, you won’t be able to play the game in Greek. Phillips confirmed in the Q&A session that the game won’t have the option for dialog exclusively in the Greek language.

In addition, he still believes that the Animus is an “important” part of the story. “I think it’s important to the overall, having two stories,” noted Phillips. “I think it is important.”

You can hear Phillips’ comments on the Animus and game length in the interview below.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is set for an October 5th release. The game will see some key changes in the area of the dynamic combat system including “30 plus” combat abilities, the return of naval combat, and large-scale battles the likes of which we’ve seen in the series before.
