New Coffee Lake Core i5/i3 and Pentium CPUs to Launch in Early April

Intel Comet Lake and Elkhart Lake release date

Intel is scheduled to launch new 8th Gen Coffee Lake Core processors in the first week of April. The confirmation comes from Embedded World 2018 Congatec via German site, ComputerBase.de. The launch will expand Intel’s portfolio of Core i series, Pentium and Celeron products.

Intel Coffee Lake Core i5-8600, i5-8500, i3-8300, Pentium Gold and Celeron CPUs – Specs and Release Date

Based on the previous leaks, Intel is expected to launch at least eight new Coffee Lake desktop CPUs. Three of these chips belong to the Core series targeting the mainstream PCs, while the remaining five are entry-level Pentium and Celeron products.

The Coffee Lake Core lineup includes the Core i5-8600, Core i5-8500, and Core i3-8300. Specifications are not confirmed but from what we know so far, both upcoming Core i5 CPUs feature 6 cores and 6 threads. The Core i5-8600 runs at a base clock of 3.1GHz, and the i5-8500 runs at 3.0GHz.

Other features include 9 MB of L3 cache, Intel UHD Graphics 630, and a TDP of 65W. In terms of pricing, the two chips were briefly listed on Newegg, with the Core i5-8500 priced at $217 and Core i5-8600 priced at $240.

The Core i3-8300 is a quad-core processor without HyperThreading. The chip will sit between the Core i3-8350K and the Core i3-8100, so you can expect price to be somewhere around the $140 mark.

In addition, Intel will be offering three new Pentium Gold and two Celeron chips, also based on Coffee Lake. The chips will feature two physical cores, Intel UHD 610 integrated graphics, and a TDP of ~51W. The Pentium and Celeron products are usually priced around $100 or less.

The new Coffee Lake desktop processors will launch in early April, alongside a variety of motherboards based on Intel’s new mid-range chipsets.

Intel's H370, B360 and H310 chipset motherboards

Up until now, the company has only released the high-end and pretty expensive Z370 chipset motherboards. They are fine for gaming enthusiasts with deep pockets, but not so much for those on a budget.

Well, worry not because Intel’s long-awaited Q370, H370, B360 and H310 chipsets are right around the corner. Motherboards based on these chipsets have already leaked on some Asian retailer websites.
