No GTC Unveil for Nvidia GeForce 20 Series GPUs: Report

Nvidia 7nm GPU news and rumors

News and rumors regarding the next-gen Nvidia GPUs have been making rounds for a while. According to recent reports, there could be no Nvidia Volta, but the Ampere or Turing GPU powering the upcoming GeForce 20 series graphics cards. Whatever be the codename, it seems like the new consumer cards are not going to launch anytime soon.

Nvidia Not Launching Next-Generation GeForce 20 Series GPUs Next Month

After speaking with team green, PCGamesN believes there won’t be a new graphics card announced at the 2018 Game Developers Conference (GDC) next month. Nvidia will be holding their own GPU Technology Conference (GTC) in San Jose starting March 26, but the event will be all about machine learning, artificial intelligence, and self-driving cars.

This is in line with what Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said during a recent earnings call. Huang reiterated that the company expects “Pascal to continue to be the world’s best gaming platform for the foreseeable future.” That makes a March unveil of a new Nvidia GPU seem unlikely doesn’t it?

Nvidia GeForce 20 series release date

Nvidia has a history of unveiling its new generations of graphics cards around GDC. It launched the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti at last year’s GDC, so the fans were hoping that the long-awaited GeForce 20 series GPUs might make an appearance, especially with the GTC show kicking off the following week.

That said, even if Nvidia doesn’t launch new hardware at GTC, we might still hear updates to the GPU roadmap which has long been stuck at Volta.

Recent rumors suggest a multi-year GPU launch, with Nvidia Ampere aimed at gamers and Turing for crypto miners. Meanwhile, Volta will keep serving as a machine learning and HPC architecture. The rumors however stemmed from unsourced articles, so they warrant considerable skepticism.

When do you think these next-gen Nvidia GPUs will launch? Computex, or maybe earlier? Share your thoughts down in the comments section.
