Intel Core i7-8850H benchmark: CFL Mobile chip 35% faster than Last Gen

Intel Core i7-8850H, the company’s upcoming high-performance Coffee Lake mobile chip, has appeared on the SiSoft Sandra database. The new processor outperforms the predecessor by a big margin, thanks to the four extra threads available to the chip. The launch is expected to take place in late March or early April.

Built on the 14nm++ Coffee Lake architecture, Intel Core i7-8850H features 6 cores and 12 threads. If previous leaks are to be believed, the chip will run at a base clock of 2.6GHz with an all-core boost of 4GHz and a single-core boost of 4.3GHz.

Further, the Coffee Lake mobile chip will pack 9 MB of L3 cache along with Intel’s UHD Graphics 630. The TDP is not confirmed yet, but you can expect it to be maintained at Intel’s traditional 45W rating for high-end mobile chips so that manufacturers don’t have to upgrade their notebook cooling with a higher TDP.

In terms of performance, the Core i7-8850H is 35% faster than the last-gen Core i7-7820HQ Kaby Lake featuring 4 cores and 8 threads. The i7-8850H scores around 159.21GOPS in processor arithmetic benchmarking, compared to the 7820HQ’s 117.78GOPS. In multi-media testing, the i7-8850H reaches 373.98Mpix/s versus the 347.32Mpix/s posted by the Kaby Lake CPU.

The exact date of release for these new mobile processors is unknown, but they are expected to launch in the next couple months alongside Intel’s 8th Gen Coffee Lake refresh series. The lineup will also include the first Core i9 processor for notebooks, called the Core i9-8950HK.

The Intel Core i9-8950HK will be the mobile flagship for the new Coffee Lake refresh family. The chip will have 6 cores and 12 threads, along with full overclocking support, as indicated by the “K” suffix. As expected, the Core i9 chip will be clocked higher than its i7 sibling, coming in at 2.9GHz base clock, 4.3GHz all-core boost, and 4.8GHz single-core boost.
