AMD’s 2nd Gen Ryzen 5 2600 Spotted – 6 Cores clocked 200MHz Higher
AMD Ryzen 5 2600 has shown up in the SiSoftware database. As part of the company’s second generation Ryzen Refresh family, the CPU is meant to replace the current-gen Ryzen 5 1600. The benchmark shows the new chip sporting the same 6 cores and 12 threads as the predecessor, but it does offer an additional 200MHz clock speed.

Following the confirmation by AMD, this is the first time any processor from the Ryzen 2 series has appeared in the public. The Ryzen 5 2600 is spotted in the SiSoftware diagnostic utility along with ASUS’s Crosshair VII Hero motherboard. The processor bears the codename ZD2600BBM68AF_38 / 34_Y, which reveals various key details.
Based on the previous naming scheme, the “Z” stands for Qualification Sample, which indicates a close-to-production product; “D” stands for Desktop; “BB” means a TDP of 65 watts; and the “M” stands for the socket AM4. The numbers separated by a forward slash should stand for the boost / base clock, which is therefore 3.8 / 3.4 GHz.

The SiSoftware entry also shows a core clock of 3.4GHz. Should this be the final product, we’re looking at an extra 200MHz compared to the Ryzen 5 1600. Similarly, the boost clock also gets a 200MHz bump. In case this is an engineering sample, we can expect even higher clock speeds.
AMD Ryzen 2000 Series CPUs and X470 chipset Motherboards Coming in April
The Ryzen 2000 desktop series will be based on the new Zen+ core that uses GlobalFoundries’ 12nm FinFET process. The smaller process node will allow for higher frequencies at lower power consumption. According to AMD, the refreshed version of its Zen core should offer up to 10% increase in performance.
Additionally, the cache, latency and memory controller should also see some minor adjustments. The 2nd Gen Ryzen lineup will feature models with 4, 6 and 8 cores under the Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 sub-series, thus following the previous naming scheme.
The Ryzen 2 processor launch will be accompanied by a new roster of X470 series motherboards. Indeed, the ASUS Crosshair VII Hero motherboard shown here in the SiSoftware database is likely an X470 chipset model. Gigabyte has already showcased an X470 motherboard, the Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi, at CES.
That being said, AMD will maintain compatibility with all previous 300 series boards but for those who want extended optimizations for 2nd Gen Ryzen CPUs, X470 will be the way to go. Both the Ryzen 2 CPUs and new motherboards will hit the market in April.
