Latest Windows 10 “Redstone 4” Build 17035 blocked on AMD-powered PCs

PCs with AMD processors blocked for Win10 build 17035

Microsoft rolled out the Windows 10 Insider build 17035 for the Fast Ring yesterday. This is the first big update to what’s been referred to as “Redstone 4,” which follows the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. It’s packed with a lot of new features and fixes, however, those with PCs featuring AMD processors will not be able to see this build.

The reason behind this is said to be a bugcheck issue when upgrading to new builds. Brandon LeBlanc, a senior program manager on the Windows Insider team, noted at the start of today’s blog post for build 17035:

Due to a bug that causes PCs with AMD processors to bugcheck during upgrading to current builds, we are blocking PCs with AMD processors from receiving this build. We are investigating and working to fix so we can remove this block.

Unfortunate for AMD users, but you can expect the Redmond giant to work hard to resolve this problem soon. Meanwhile, here’s a quick overview of the Windows 10 Insider Build 17035 for Redstone 4 update cycle.

First things first, Microsoft Edge now allows you to mute tabs right from the tab itself, which is a very useful addition for sure. Not only this, but the web browser also lets you save free EPUB books that you’re reading online to your lock hard drive.

Another nifty feature is “Near Share,” which uses Bluetooth to let you wirelessly share files and URLs to nearby PCs. An optional autosuggest feature, which is typically found on phones, is also included in Windows.

The update also brings several settings improvements, including updated Ease of Access settings, a new out of the Control Panel section for Audio settings, and a new “Acrylic”-themed UI for the touch keyboard.

Overall, build 17035 is a pretty big release, finally making things excited about Redstone 4. As for AMD users, we’re keeping our eyes out and will update you when a fix comes in.
