AMD’s Ryzen 7 2700U has Performance similar to Nvidia’s discrete GPU

AMD Ryzen 7 2700U Raven Ridge 3DMark 11 performance

AMD’s upcoming Raven Ridge APU has seen multiple leaks during the past few weeks. Just yesterday, we spotted their Ryzen 5 2500U in a datasheet posted by HP. And, hot on the heels of that listing comes today’s leak which shows Team Red’s top-end Ryzen 7 2700U chip competing against Nvidia’s discrete MX150 GPU.

AMD Raven Ridge Ryzen 7 2700U and Ryzen 5 2500U 3DMark 11 Scores Leaked

The Raven Ridge 3DMark 11 performance benchmark was posted by Reddit user TUM_APISAK. It shows the Ryzen 7 2700U APU managing to achieve a graphics score of 4,072, and a physics score of 6,419. The Ryzen 5 2500U, on the other hand, scores 3,774 for graphics, while oddly surpassing its elder sibling when it comes to physics with a score of 6,577.

AMD Raven Ridge Ryzen 7 2700U and Ryzen 5 2500U 3DMark 11 scores

The scores are pretty impressive, with the Ryzen 7 2700U essentially twice as fast as the existing top-end AMD APU. In fact, the integrated graphics on the new APU is within striking distance of the MX150, Nvidia’s discrete mobile Pascal GPU. The Nvidia MX150 hits a graphics score of around 4,600 in 3DMark 11, which is slightly ahead of the 2700U.

On the physics side, the Ryzen 7 Raven Ridge APU comes close to the ~6500 physics points of Intel’s Core i7-8550U (IGP). The four-core, eight-thread i7-8550U is part of Intel’s 8th Gen mobility family.

It’s worth mentioning that the CPU performance tends to vary dramatically from one system to another depending on their thermal headroom. For example, physical score on the same i7-8550U can reach upwards of 8,000 points on the 3DMark 11 scale, when paired with the MX150 in the HP Spectre x360 laptop.

AMD's Ryzen 7 2700U Raven Ridge APU performance

The power consumption of the AMD Ryzen 7 2700U is not revealed yet, but it will likely be in the 35-watt range. Taking into account the the thermal and power limits, this APU could land into the notebook sized form factors, offering a decent graphics performance in less demanding titles such as Dota 2, CS:GO, and League of Legends.

AMD is expected to offer Raven Ridge in in two flavours: Ryzen 7 2700U and Ryzen 5 2500U. Both feature integrated Vega graphics and a quad-core Zen CPU with SMT enabled for a total of eight threads. The 2700U runs at 2.2 GHz base clock speed while the 2500U is clocked a little lower at 2.0 GHz. The launch is scheduled to take place later this year.
