AMD adds four new GPUs to 500 series: Radeon RX 550, RX 540, 530 & 520

Last week, AMD released their Radeon RX 500 series graphics cards comprising of the Radeon RX 580, RX 570, RX 560 and RX 550. But, these aren’t the only cards the company has to offer under the rebadged Polaris lineup as they have quietly added four new OEM solutions to the list: Radeon RX 550, RX 540, 530 and 520.

New Radeon RX 550 for OEMs boasts full Polaris 12 chip

AMD has launched Radeon RX 540 and RX 550 (OEM) featuring slightly different specifications than the already exisiting RX 550 card.

Radeon RX 550 for OEMs is here

The new Radeon RX 550 is based on the full-fat Polaris 12 graphics chip. The card features 640 shader processors compared to 512 on the non-OEM model.

With the increase in shaders, the clock speed has also bumped from 1183MHz to 1287MHz. This, in turn, increases the compute power considerably from 1.2 to 1.7 TFLOPS. Moreover, the OEM-RX 550 comes with 4GB GDDR5 instead of the 2GB memory.

The Radeon RX 540 is also an OEM product with a similar spec-set as the Radeon RX 550. The card features the same 512 shader processors clocked slightly higher at 1219MHz, though the 4GB GDDR5 runs slower at 6.0GHz clock.

The Radeon 520 and 530 are “Rebrands of the Rebrands”

Next up, we have two entry level cards, the Radeon 520 and 530 (yes the RX prefix is missing). They are both based on the Oland graphics chip. The chip was introduced in 2013 and was first used in the HD 8570/8670, then later in the Radeon R5 240/250, R5 330/340/350 and R5 430/435.

Radeon 530 and 520 graphics cards

The Radeon 520 uses the first generation Graphics Core Next (GCN) which debuted six years ago. Built using the 28nm process, the card has 320 shaders with 1 to 2 GB of DDR3/5 graphics memory operating on a 64-bit wide bus. It runs at 1024MHz boost clock to deliver a compute power of 0.66 TFLOPS.

The Radeon 530 on the other hand is based on the third generation GCN, again fabbed at 28nm. It features either 320- or 384- shader processors with up to 2GB GDDR5 memory. The 530 comes clocked at 1030MHz frequency and 0.8 of TFLOPS computer power.
