Intel 10 Core i9-7900X Skylake-X Benchmarks: Beats i7-6950X at $999
Intel’s new Core i9-7900X Skylake-X benchmarks have surfaced, compared against the company’s previous flagship, the Core i7-6950X. The comparison is interesting considering the fact that both chips feature 10 cores and 20 threads.
Intel 10 Core i9-7900X: Enthusiast Class Flagship with up to 4.5GHz Boost Clock
The Intel Core X-series comprises of a wide variety of processors with a core count of 4-18 cores. The 10 Core i9-7900X belongs to the Skylake-X family and will replace the Core i7-6950X.

While both chips may pack the same amount of cores and threads, the Core i9 part is based on a new Skylake architecture that utilizes a refined iteration of Intel’s 14nm process node. This would result in an improved performance coming from higher clock speeds.
The Core i9-7900X runs at clock speeds of 3.3GHz base (3.0GHz on i7), 4.3GHz boost (3.5GHz on i7) and 4.5GHz Turbo 3.0 Boost (4.0GHz on i7).
Additionally, there’s also rebalanced cache hierarchy system that is not only going to save space but also deliver faster performance to uplift IPC. The i9-7900X features 13.75 MB of L3 cache, that’s 1.375 MB per core.
The chip features 44 PCIe Gen 3.0 lanes as well as quad channel DDR4-2666 memory. The TDP is locked at 140W.
Core i9-7900X Skylake-X Benchmarks vs Core i7-6950X
The Core i9-7900X Skylake-X benchmarks were leaked by a Chinese overclocker who tested the chip against the i7-6950X in CPU-Z.
Both chips run at stock clocks, with the Core i9-7900X scoring 527 points in the single-thread test versus 430 points by the Core i7-6950X. In the multi-threaded test, the 7900X manages to achieve 5198 points compared to 5030 points scored by the i7 part.
If you’ve concerns over voltage which reaches as high as 1.764V, then it should be noted that this is a bug as the CPU-Z build isn’t yet finalized for the Core X-series support.
You may not see the performance gains as huge, but they do look nice when you consider the price cut here: the Core i9-7900X will cost $999 compared to its last-gen sibling which had a launch price of $1500.
