The Radeon RX Vega packaging has leaked out on the web. Vega is AMD’s upcoming graphics solution to address the enthusiast PC market and is scheduled to arrive this quarter.

AMD Radeon RX Vega Packaging hints at Quake Champions Bundle

There is nothing too fancy about the Radeon RX Vega packaging. It’s simple and doesn’t list specifications or features aside from those which are already known such as DirectX 12, Vulkan, Radeon Chill, Freesync 2 and Radeon Relive live capture support.

Apart from marketing labels, the front of the box also features a shot of Quake Champions indicating the game could be bundled with the card. In that reference, AMD’s Crimson ReLive 17.4.4 driver which released yesterday, installed game icons for Quake Champions on desktop.

The icon allowed users to apply for the upcoming beta of the first-person shooter game; however the chipmaker soon revised its policy to let users configure whether or not they want the shortcut on their desktop.

AMD has struck a “unique partnership” with id Tech and Bethesda in which the game studios will optimize their games for Ryzen and Vega. In addition to Quake Champions, Bethesda’s other upcoming titles including Prey 2 and Fallout 4 VR will also be AMD optimized.

Radeon RX Vega Specs and Performance

Built using the 14nm process, Vega will be offered in two variants: Vega 10 and Vega 11. Vega 10 will be bigger of the two. It features two HBM2 stacks with up to 8GB of memory. However, AMD did confirm last month that AIB partners will have the freedom to ship cards with various memory configurations as well as different coolers and PCBs.

The Vega 10 will be based on the Next Compute Unit (NCU) design and sport 64 Compute Units for a total of 4096 stream processors. While the older Fiji GPU based on the 28nm process also features the same 4096 SPs, higher clock speeds will increase the throughput of the latest chip which, in turn, will help yield better numbers.

The details on the smaller Vega 11 are scarce right now, but from what we have heard so far, it’s going to feature GDDR5 memory, instead of GDDR5X, and target the mainstream market under $400.

In terms of performance, the RX Vega will likely take on Nvidia in the flagship enthusiast segment. In a recent AMA session, AMD’s Desktop CPU marketing manager Don Woligroski revealed that the GPU is being internally tested and the performance they have seen is promising compared with the likes of Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1080 Ti and the Titan Xp.

That sounds great because it’s been nearly two years since the team red released a graphics card aimed at the enthusiast market segment.

AMD is said to have already initiated the full production of Vega GPUs so expect more details to be revealed at Computex 2017 being held from 30th May to the 3rd June.
