AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Price Cut – Available for $470

PCs with AMD processors blocked for Win10 build 17035

AMD has slashed the Ryzen 7 1800X price by $29 US. The flagship processor based on the company’s next generation Zen architecture is now available for $470 at various leading online retailers in the US, down from its launch price of $499.

The price cut is, however, exclusive to the 1800X. Prices of other Ryzen 7 series parts as well as the Ryzen 5 series six-core and quad-core processors seem unaffected.

AMD Ryzen 7 1800X is an eight-core chip featuring simultaneous multi-threading (SMT), which enables 16 logical CPUs for the software to deal with. It runs at 3.60GHz base and 4.0GHz TurboCore frequency, with a neat little feature called extended frequency range (XFR). The technology allows for higher automated overclocks depending on the cooling solution being used.

The 1800X supports 512 KB of L2 cache per core, and 16 MB of shared L3 cache, with an impressive TDP of 95W. Moreover, the chip is multiplier unlocked offering overclocking support right of the box through the AMD Ryzen Master overclocking utility or motherboard BIOS.

Recently, overclockers used the top-dog Ryzen to break two frequency world records. Using the liquid nitrogen, the 1800X was pushed to 5.8GHz to officially claim a world record on HWBot. The chip also managed to hit 5.36GHz on all 8 cores and dethroned the Intel Core i7 5960X from its No. 1 spot on the Cinebench R15.

The Ryzen 7 1800X offers an incredible multithreaded performance that matches or even beats Intel’s $1,000 Core i7 6900K. Things are not quite the same when it comes to gaming, but it seems that there is more to the story. We can’t cover it all here, but to be precise, there isn’t some flaw with Ryzen that slows it down in games but the games themselves need to be optimized for the Ryzen code.
