Sub-$80 GeForce GT 1030 could be Nvidia’s Answer to AMD RX 550

GeForce GT 1030 vs Radeon RX 550

Nvidia is reportedly readying a new graphics card know as the GeForce GT 1030 to take on AMD’s newly launched, Radeon RX 550. The card will be aimed at low-end PC users who are looking for a solution better than discrete graphics but don’t want to pay much.

Nvidia Planning GeForce GT 1030 – Features 512 Cores, 2GB VRAM, 35W TDP

Nvidia’s current entry-level solution is their Pascal based GeForce GTX 1050 which sells for $99 – $114 US. AMD targets the same market segment with its recently refreshed Radeon RX 560. The card costs $99 and delivers similar performance as the GTX 1050. However, AMD has just introduced another entry-level card under its rebadged Polaris lineup, known as the Radeon RX 550.

AMD RX 550 is the first graphics card to be based on the new Polaris 12 GPU. The card features 512 stream processors, and up to 2GB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide interface. It costs only $79 and attracts users who want a proper discrete graphics solution over Intel based integrated graphics but can’t afford the RX 560.

Right now, Nvidia doesn’t have anything to offer below the GTX 1050 but rumor has it that they could soon launch a GeForce GT 1030 to tackle the RX 550. Yes, the card won’t launch with GTX tag as it will act as a succeessor to the GT 930 / GT 730.

Nvidia GeForce GT 1030 rumored, Pascal GP108 based card

Spec-wise, the GeForce GT 1030 is based on the new Pascal GP108 GPU built using the 14nm process. The card features 512 CUDA Cores, 32 TMUs and 16 ROPs, with 2GB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide interface. No power connector is required as 35W can be drawn from the PCIe slot.

The GT 1030 will likely deliver performance on par with, or better than the GTX 750 Ti. So you can expect it to run most eSports titles such as League of Legends and DOTA 2. The card could hit the shelves around mid-May, carrying a price tag of sub-$80 US.
